My last entry left off with me getting a new wheelchair. Well that went kind of slow as the chair had been in storage and the sales person did not realize it needed new tires and axles. All the parts are in though and the chair should be shipped out any day now. The seller only needs to find a box and a few other parts that were needed but he tested everything out and all seems to be going well. He has kept excellent contact with me every step of the way and I am confident I will get an excellent product when it’s shipped.
One of my neighbors had complained about a few of my cats who were escaping the kennel. We have a huge net over the top of the whole kennel but a few smaller cats have managed to find loop holes to escape from. I thought it was going to be a general citation about nuisance cats, but evidently the neighbor also wanted them checked for rabies vaccination certificates. My cats had not been vaccinated and only one dog has a 2008 vaccination. This meant I had to show 24 rabies certificates in 3 days. I had no clue how I was going to do this. A friend brought the concern to Greedy or Needy and the folks on GON started adopting a pet for vaccinations. In less than the allotted time the animals were saved. Their vaccinations meant that they would not be seized and destroyed due to being a public safety concern.
Here is how that day went:
Things started out quite well, we crammed 11 cats and a dog into the
car and headed out for the first round of shots. They were prepared
for us. We brought in cages and as Amy went to get another they had
the first cage done so all 12 animals were done in less than 5 minutes.
We headed back to get my more aggressive crew. Had a little trouble
with this crew as we could not pile up 3 at a time in the cages, they
were far too aggressive so we knew we would have to take another trip
we just didn’t have enough cages. Before we even hit the car two
aggressive I had hoped would work out together were fighting fiercely
in a small cage and bloodshed was close so we had to empty one cage and
separate these two. That left 2 cats who were going to have to go on a
third trip. This trip went as well as the first and Amy handled the
hostile cats for their shots so we didn’t have to have them call on
more staff….they had done so much for us already.
Third trip, we trapped our last hostiles and our mentally retarded
dog. Headed out and it started pouring. On the road leading to the
clinic we took a left hand turn and mid way through the intersectin
that same tire I have trouble with, the passenger front blew out hard
and we swerved around a bit and Amy managed to straighten up and drive
right into an old bank parking lot. We dropped the tire off the rim so
we were done. We only have a scissor jack and the parking lot was on a
slop and it was hard rain and wind so the car was swaying on the jack
with the animals inside. With lightening, rain and wind they were
safer inside than outside so we hoped for the best. Nothing local to
our break down spot had anything and my cell batts were dying. I sent
out messages, had someone go to my house to sit with my son and sat
there in a wheelchair in the pouring rain while Amy went off to find
someone who would let her use a phone.

Finally got hold of her boss who came up, picked up Amy and took her
out to see if they could get a used tire. By now all those places were
closed and we found one place open where we had to buy a brand new
one. That cost us $60 out of the remains of our food money. Amy
started crying at the tire store because now we have no clue how we are
going to eat for the rest of the week. He boss helped her regain
composure and got her out of the store. They came back and put the
tire on the car and everyone was drenched.
We were not in time to get these guys to the vet so we brought them
back home, and they went up the next day.
Animals saved, now we work on the kennel repairs that allowed some of the animals to escape that got me in that position in the first place. I was suppose to have a kennel inspection so we were scrambling around trying to do all those
THEN….
A couple of days later on Amy’s way home from work
another tire blew hard, put a giant slice it the sidewall from the rim
and killed the rim. She had to abandon the car in a church parking lot
and walk home at 11 PM, we got notice the car had to be moved but
we couldn’t afford a wrecker and she couldn’t afford a day off from
work. My son charged up the air compressor and put more fix a flat in
my dead donut. He walked to the car with a friend and put the donut
and drove it till it went flat then used the undischarged air in the
compressor to pump it back up which got him close enough to our road so
he could ride the rim and get the car home. Donut is now beyond dead
but the car is in the yard. My kid hitched a ride to walmart with a
rim a neighbor had that did fit my car..he gave it to me as he was only
using it to hold down a tarp over some wood. We managed to get yet
ANOTHER brand new tire.
While all this is going on we are trying desperately to get move out to
the old building in the back yard where I used to live. We now have a tarp on the roof using
Lori’s idea of sandwiching. What we have is vinyl flooring covering the
roof, elasticized sealant over the vinyl, another layer of sealer then
tarp fastened down. It’s the best we could do but I MUST be in there ASAP. So far so good, no leaks. I am setting up my cooking area now while waiting
for my son to finish up with the car so he can crawl under the main
house and get all the cable wires run out there.
It’s been a freaking PITA the last few days and financially we are
drowning.
We came up for air for a little while then…
On Sept 4th my neighbor and friend took ill. Trina (the wife) screamed for me to
come down saying Larry (her husband) could not wake up. Amy drove me
down and I got in to find him near comatose. He has emphysema and while
he had been inhaling, barely any air was coming out. 911 was called and
Amy and I went to work on exhaling him while he inhaled so we could
exchange his air till the ambulance got there. When they got there they
told us had we not exhaled him he would not have lasted till they got
there. They worked him and got him to the ER where he was put on life
support.
We drove Trina his wife to the ER and she went up ahead of us, I got in
my wheelchair and Amy tried push me up the steep hill to the ER but
then she tore a tendon in her calf. I wheeled myself up while she too
became a patient. She now has a horrible bruise and I mean
horrible!
Her leg was so bad she could only work 1/2 day the next day. They sent
her home. She had bleeding into her ankle.

Well Larry is now off the vent and his chest tubes are out now. He’s
finally out of ICU and on the surgical floor instead. He is talking and
watching TV, is eating and so far appears to have suffered minimal
brain damage. Hopefully he will be home in 2-3 weeks.
We just started to settle down, and on Sept 6 We went to a biker event to bring school supplies to children in a home for abused and neglected Children. We couldn’t complete the whole event as Amy’s leg was just in too much pain. We went to leave and our car didn’t want to start

This kept happening then on the 9th when Amy went to start the car to go to work. It
would not start and she had to get a ride into work. It’s been down since. We have food but now Amy won’t be able to get to the doctor to
have her leg reviewed for that blood seeping into her ankle and that is
worrisome. We don’t have a pharmacy nearby to get a few 4 inch ace
bandages to help compress the tendon. We need our car to get into town
for that. She really needs those compression bandages since she is on
her feet for 8 straight hours, they do not have stools behind the
counter at her store so she can’t get off her leg in all that time
except for her 2 breaks and that is not helping this injury at all.
Now it’s the Wee hours of the morning in Friday September 12 2008. I am finally done with the updates. It has been a really rough time. The car is still dead. We have no way to get to town tomorrow after Amy gets her paycheck so that we can cash it. No money in the bank mean no money to pay anyone to charge the battery so we can drive the car to a mechanic to get it repaired.
August and September have been BAD months for us!
