To Thank a Friend

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

I wanted to thank a friend for the recent conversations on instant messenger.  It’s been great getting to know this person.

I had done a favor for this person, a favor I had done before.  This time though the person insisted that I name a price for my favor.  Yeah..right…like I’m really going to do that?  Ok well the person knew I wouldn’t do that so we get to talking about how it would be really cool if I could get out to the buffet with Amy.  She mentioned the prices of the buffet having gone and I agreed, they went up here too to around the same price in her area.  Hmmm..she was sneaky.  She was calculating the amount it would cost for Myself, Amy and possibly one of my sons going out to eat at the buffet.  The next morning true to her word that she would not accept no for an answer was a paypal with funds for Amy and I to go out to eat.

I told my kids about it and they thought it would be cool for us to have a Mom’s night out instead of them coming along so we did indeed go out to eat.  It’s a pretty rare treat for us so we had to get cell cam pics of this event, not only cuz, well, we are wierd and just do that kind of thing.  I wanted to let that kind person know we did indeed go out and had a great time.

I stuffed my face with as much fried fish, and shrimp I could find!  I love seafood but my kids hate it so I don’t cook it at home unless I find a really good deal on something.   Right now my plate consists of honey walnut shrimp, fried fish, saute’ shrimp and butter, crab mean croissant and chicken teriyaki on a stick.

Amy prefers to start a meal with a bit of Sushi and other raw stuff.  She has oysters on the shell, squid and all sorts of different sushi foods most of which I can’t pronounce let alone try to type…but I think it all means raw fish wrapped in rice.

Since my son didn’t go there was also enough for us to visit Starbucks on the way home!!
Another rare but treasured treat.

Mocha cappuccino with extra whip on the side…Ahhh!  That was good!

Ha!  Don’t tell her I put this on the web…you may never hear from me again!  Yes…she is indeed lapping the foam off the lid in public I of course would never do any such thing…..well not if she has the camera in her hand anyway.

The the one who refused to take no for an answer…Thank you friend we had a GREAT time!!!!

Wheelchair/Scooter Ramp Coming Soon

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

I just got word last night that someone donated a huge deck towards the wheelchair ramp build fundraiser.  The volunteer carpenter crew is going to cut this deck into 3 sections then haul it to my house by trailer on Wed.

A steel wheelchair access door is being sold to the crew for 1/2 price which will replace my hand made outside exit door and allow wheelchair acces to/from my bedroom from the kennel.

With these material donations the crew will be able to use some of the raised funds to build an entry/exit door in the side of the kennel so that once everything is complete there will be a proper exit door leading to a platform deck with a 30 foot ramp coming into the 50 foot kennel.  Then a smaller ramp going into the portable building that I use as my office  When I’m not sleeping I’m in my office and now with proper ramps and access doors I will be able to tend the animals without injury to myself or the risk of injuring them through falling.

Instead of me having to enter/exit through the portable to get to the car, I will be able to simply go through the kennel gate.  The steps that are being used now to enter/exit my bedroom will be moved to replace the steps at the outside exit of the portable building.  Those are new steps and still in excellent condition but stairs are a huge challenge for me and are very dangerous.  Moving them to the exit of the portable allows all walking people to exit with a good set of steps and I will be able to exit safely through the kennel gate.  Once this is done, there will be no more stairs to reduce my ability to move between the kennel, portable and mobile home.

We still need to modify the mobile home for full access to all rooms, but this ramp build is a HUGE move for freedom.  I will have access to my bedroom, sons room, a bathroom, the kennel and the portable building in the back yard.  That is plenty for me to be totally thrilled about!!

Our next step will be a full kennel rebuild.  We are only using a 24 x 50 foot area of our full land plot for the kennel.  We want to remove the kennel wall that faces the rest of the land, and build a new kennel wall along the land boundary so that our animals will have full use of the land and I will have access to the entire plot to begin building raised garden beds so we can start our family gardens.

My buddy Rick has been a tremendous help by putting the word out about the needs.  He has visited my home, has seen the obstacles and looked for ways to help.  He got a friend who knew how to do what needed to be done, got the measurements and got a plan going and got others involved.

Hopefully I will have some pictures and video to share.  I can’t wait to be able to take my scooter up the ramp and into my bedroom.

Family needs help! They are almost there, can you chip in?

Application Details

Truck Repair

| Cost to fully fund this application: 1,060.00 Modest Needs Points

We are desperately in need of a truck repair. Our truck had to be towed
to the local garage. The problem that we are facing is that my husband
was getting a ride with a co-worker so that was ok for us. His coworker
was just recently fired, which is what has put us in this bind.

My
husband is going to lose his job as well if he doesn’t get the truck
fixed. The company he works has a disciplinary point system and my
husband already has one point against him for having transportation
issues.

We has already paid a small amount towards the bill, but
are having difficulty doing much more as we are currently undergoing a
legal battle over our home. We had a rent-to-own contract and once we
paid it off, the landlord decided to double the price. Our court date
is set for December 19. This is already going to make our Christmas
rough, so we’re hoping we don’t have unemployment to go with it. Thank
you so much for all that you do. We truly appreciate it.
